Why do you "the man" have MLK day off and me a poor negro child have to work? This is the holiday for my people. Without Dr. King, hundreds of businesses would have never existed. Today is the day to celebrate the fact that blacks have come so far. We are able to afford diamond "grills," chains that are worth more than most people's homes, and rims that cost more than some cars. Because of him, we are able to celebrate that we were able to stop white people from getting to say "nigger" but we cannot hear a song on an african american geared radio station without that word. We can also thank him that he died for the right for so many to get to vote, but blacks have the lowest voter turnout ratios. What a joy, how far my cousins have come? Value in all of the wrong things. That is my reflection on being black for the year. There are too many crazy people in my race.
Love,
Jenna Lynn
